Virtua Fighter Emulator WANGMODEL1 is Out
SEGA MODEL KING (WangDrum) has released a Sega Model 1 arcade emulator that perfectly recreates the original Virtua Fighter.
I’m not the only one digging back into Virtua Fighter. (In fact, someone recently added a 32X guide to the game over on GameFAQs. Crazy!) SEGA MODEL KING (WangDrum) has released a Sega Model 1 arcade emulator that perfectly recreates Virtua Fighter.
A bit of background: MAME has run Model 1 games to some degree for years, but particularly in the OG Virtua Fighter, collision detection has been super poor. Throws won’t connect, many hits aren’t picked up — it’s a bad experience if you actually want to play. So, there’s been a need for this. Via comments, WangDrum has been analyzing the Model 1 hardware for years and has fairly recently started programming this emulator. I’ve been following it for a bit, waiting for the final 1.0 release before posting something. It’s good! It’s really good! And, you can increase the resolution to get your polygons looking as sharp as they possibly can!
