Crazy Taxi World Tour Announced

XBOX Games Showcase 2026 saw the reveal of Crazy Taxi World Tour. Story-wise, Axel seeks to find his stolen taxi in a quest that will feature areas on five different continents.

Back in 2021, a Sega Sammy press released revealed their intention to bringing back some of their old, abandoned IP (aka the type of things in Local Ditch’s Club Sega). Later in 2023, we had more specifics and that these dormant franchises would include games from Jet Set (Grind) Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Sreets of Rage, Crazy Taxi, and more. Though Shinobi has made an appearance, there’s been nothing but a few pieces of art for Crazy Taxi… until now.

Based on the trailer, the original San Fransisco map from the first Crazy Taxi looks to be represented well. Personally, I loved the first Crazy Taxi and spent way more time than I should’ve playing through the Dreamcast version. The second one was a little drab to me — I think with more of a city focus, the lack of vibrancy dimmed the the game a bit. Though I lost touch with the series afterwards, the original game is still an awesome blast of quick-hit arcade action and quite possibly my favorite Dreamcast game ever.

Observations: I didn’t see any product placement in the trailer. Normally, I’d say it’s good to avoid giving our capitalist overlords any more attention than needed (note that there are NO ADS here at Local Ditch Gaming), but having real world locations, like Levi’s and Pizza Hut, was a nice addition. I can see missions like “pick up 5 passengers in a this time,” “make this much money in less than three minutes,” “out deliver your opponent,” etc. being a good addition to the game, particularly if the missions help you develop your driving skills. Realistically, as long as SEGA can nail the feel of the taxi and get that right, I think things will be good here.
